I have tried so many brands of nail varnish, from the expensive (Channel) to the medium priced (Sally Hansen) and even the cheap drugstore types. Even the ones that claim they are "chip resistant". In less than 24 hours the nailpolish will start chipping and peeling straight off.
Has this anything to do with the condition of my nails? And what is the solution.
I dont mind going to have them profesionally done for special occasions, but it is to expensive for me to have them done in a salon regularly.

PS. I must add that I've tried both top and base coats while wearing nailpolish, the kind that is "chip resistant" and it still chips.

Before you apply any nail polish make sure you use alcohol or nail polish remover and wipe your nails. (There is oil on your nails which causes the nail polish to either bubble on your nail or peel off) then make sure you apply a base coat, two coats of polish then a top coat. It takes about an hour to fully dry/set.
Try to avoid washing dishes and other things that may be harsh on your nails or polish.
You could also have them set with gels, they can do that at a nail place, and for someone who likes their nails polished all the time trust me its worth it. It will last for a very loooong time.

Make sure your nails are clean and dry before applying polish.
There should be no traces of oils or removers.

Apply a base coat, and let it dry completely. Then put on two thin coats of your nail color, letting each coat dry before applying another. Finally, brush on a top coat.

Make sure the polishes are applied in a thin, even coat. If it's too thick, it will chip and peel off.

Be careful of how you use your nails - try to use the pads of your fingers, whenever possible. Wear rubber gloves for household chores, doing dishes, cleaning, etc.

Just wanted to add that my favorite brand of polish is OPI. They have gorgeous colors, and I find that the polish goes on smoothly and lasts well.

It depends where you are maybe, probably.
I get the same problem but what makes my nails not chip or peel is I use KONAD's nail products. You can search for google.com and type in KONAD nail art. Thier nail polish and top coat really rocks. I buy mine at the mall or internet.

well u shood deff. put a top shiney coat on top of ur nail polish no matter what kind u use..also this might be happining if ur exposing ur hand to water too much or bitteing ur nails ..i found that to make nails healthier take a couple of days with just clear nail strengther on without any other colored polish.. nails do look alot healthier and strongger then you can put on any polish after a couple of days of rest for ur nails ..always keep them well trimmed when they are chipped and clean them..also make sure ur using a good kind of nail polish remover cause that effects ur nails too..never use pure acetone on ur nails it makes them soo dry. use a polish remover with gelitan in it its better for ur nails..also getting fake nails put on at the salon harms ur nails it makes them scratchy and soooo sooo soo weak!..
always protect ur nails when doing work around the house like waching dishes
remember ur nails are jewels not tools!!

After you polish your nails you should go over it with a clear coat. That keeps your polish from coming off and keeps it looking shiny

I'm not sure what might be causing it, but have you ever tried using a top coat over your polish? You can buy it right at a drug store, or wherever you buy your polish.

do you bite your nails/ play with them in your mouth ??? if you do so .. stop doing that ...

Where do you work at?? the type of work you are doing might also affect, If you are working with chemicals a lot that can be a reason , my mom doesnt work and she cleans the house a lot .. (neat freak) lol ... and the same thing happens to her... if this is your situation, you should wear heavy duty gloves when cleaning the house..
