yep, i always read maps. If it's long trip i read the map the night before, dont trust the sat navs, make too many stupid mistakes

And no I dont read maps during a journey. If I need to then I pull over, but I've usually imprinted the route in my mind before the trip. To say sat nav is safer is not strictly true, some accident statistics now include taking eyes off road to look or fiddle with the sat nav system.

I can read a map, but also use sat nav. They are certainly better than on line route planners. I find the best way is to use both. The sat nav tends to be ok when you are fairly near to your destination, I use the map to get to the general area, then sat nav to finish off. They do tend to send you around the houses a bit otherwise, but they are definitely safer than trying to read a map or directions.

I'm still learning to read maps, so confusing. sent hubby the wrong way the other week we ended up going about 80 miles in wrong direction, he was not best pleased.
Some sat nav's also tell you where the speed cameras are, even the hand held ones, which can be handy on motorways.
hubby has more faith in the sat nav than he does in me, its quicker too, I'm sat there for ages trying to find my starting point never mind my destination

maximum recent-day autos overclock you certainly velocity, in case you have a visit workstation and sat nav you are able to try the two one in each and every of them for an certainly reading. I also have a Mondeo and the workstation velocity is comparable to my sat nav, If i'm doing 80 my sat nav and workstation the two study seventy six. In the two case even permitting the mandatory 10 consistent with cent, i'd probability a guess you would be receiving a letter with a superb and 3 factors. Sorry.

you can use sat nav whilst driving do you know how hard it is to read a map whilst driving not to mention dangerous.
Its like saying why use a washing machine can't any1 do it by hand well they can but why the heck would you want to when its easier to put it in the washing machine or in this case why the heck bother with a map when its easier to use sat-nav not to mention more accurate well most of the time even if you are a good map reader.

Using a sat nav is a lot easier than reading a map plus they warn you of speed cameras and can direct you to the nearest petrol station.

yes i can read a map. im a trucker & prefer maps. never tried a sat nav as yet but i,ve heard that they send u the wrong way some times, or down narrow lanes/low bridges etc. cant beat a good map. cheaper & u never have to worry about them getting pinched if u leave it in ur vehicle.

You haven't used one then, the main advantages are they speak, and you never need to stop to read them, they also change route should you make a detour, also they count down your remaining journey time and distance, there is also usually a 'quick hit' button for a hospital/petrol station/restaurant if you are in a city you dont know it can be much better than a map. Also you can take it with you and walk through a shopping/town centre you have never been before and it will return you to your vehicle! A map is just out of date.

Its safer to be directed by a Sat Nav than to be flicking through a book or have piles of print outs from multimap. It also saves arguements, cos you can just blame the maching. Embrace technology, get with it!

Perhaps it's my age but I always plan my journey in advance.
A road atlas is best. AA route planner is good too.

I've heard numerous stories about these satnav's taking drivers to the wrong destination. There's a place up in the Valleys which lorry drivers end up in from followin the satnav, then they can't get back down...it's the top of a mountain with a one track road.

Yes around £400 for a satnav
10 quid for a road atlas
AA route planner nowt
