Maybe I am a hopeless romantic, but I see vampires as lovers. I don't think they are in a relationship just for the blood.
What do you think and why?

I've always seen them as romantic immortals. Vampire spells out: sex, blood, romance, immortality, evil and secrets, for me.
That goes for both real and movie/fiction book vampires.

Sounds like you are speaking from the cult perspective. The cult movie fanbase has romanticised the Vampire as a provacative character.
The myth that bore Vampires was far from that. A dead body that climbs out of a fresh grave to drink blood from humans is not romantic. It is quite repulsing. Or romantic in a necro sort of way : )
I like both. Depends on the way I want to use the character. I am somewhat fond of the Whitewolf roleplaying game concept of the Vampire and Werewolf. But I find the "Clans" very limiting. I would use the base Vampire vs Werewolf concept and change it. Underworld did a good job of it.

Well, I think they need the blood to survive, so it's more of a blood lust thing. Not monsters, just human predators. Maybe a blood lust type thing.
Note: We went to Santa Monica pier at night a couple weeks ago (where the Lost Boys was filmed) and there were no vampires that we could find. :)

Monsters. However, from a story standpoint, I don't see them as being without choice. Some delight in the power and don't mind killing, others can try and be as human as they can (ala animal blood, blood banks, etc). I don't buy into the whole erotic bit ala Anne Rice that's taken hold of the genre.

I see them as tormented souls. They're stuck in a world where they can't go forward or backward. I think most are lovers though. But they all seem like monsters in a sense since they have to feed to survive. They use seduction and lust to ensnare their prey.
