And, do you search for poetry in both printed and musical forms, or just one or the other? If so, which is your favorite, the written word or the musical composition?

Thanks for your answers.

No and Yes. There are good poems with out music but vise versa! You should look deeper then just the words but the meaning!

Yes, I think that poets must be songwriters and composers, or else no one ever sees their work, except a few old prof types and librarians.

So if the best poetry that we experience is the music and lyrics, then yes, the musicians are the best modern poets.

I hope this is logical.

Perhaps the competition goes to the songwriters and popular culture.

But the great themes and poetic structures endure for centuries.

Perhaps a few of the great poets are recognized during their lifetime, but most songwriters sell their words in mass media frenzies, and so we recognize the lyrics as poetry!

The answer is No, and I read poetry in any forum or media I can find.

I prefer poets of our time, like Maya Angelou, who has a talent for the written word - not many songwriters are as deep. I prefer the written word regarding my preference - music has a different effect on me.

well, maybe it's some kind of return to the complete show of antiquity... music, theater, poetry (ancient Greek tragedy for example)... and yes, I like such poets-musicians (Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, etc.), but I don't think they are the best...
