Okay...they've been having a horrible season this year, no doubt. What I want to know is two things: 1.) What is the problem? How did the champs go to being a team with the worst record in the NFL? 2.) What should be done about it? I think that the Steelers should lose the rest of their games (if not already happening) and get the first round draft pick next year. With that advantage and more than likely a new coach, do you think the team would be better next year?
Thanx

Whoa people...calm down...thanx for the numerous responses but you people have a lot of hatred for the Black & Gold. I will say I am not completely biased against other teams than the Steelers. I am a Colts and Broncos fan as well. However, I do have several favorite players such as Troy Polamalu, Heath Miller, and Hines Ward that I feel are taking a beating this year because of the team's lack of success. Another point is that since Jerome left, it seems that they are lacking a sense of unity among them...The Bus was the keystone that held the team together with motivation and determination...
Anyways, thanx for the great answers so far, but quit bagging on Pittsburgh. Great people and things have come out of the city, which is MY city ;-)

The Steelers don't actually have the worst record, and unfortunately, they don't have the worst record in their division (Cleveland takes that cake). However, they do suck, and are not going near the playoffs this year. The first problem lies in the fact that Ben made a small comment about his offensive line not protecting him as well as they should. As a quarterback, he never should have said that. It is an insult to the offensive line to say that, as well as a childish tactic to point fingers. No matter who is at fault for their multiple losses this season, the TEAM is losing, not just one player. As to what should be done about it, NOTHING. They will not get a first round draft pick, because there are numerous teams with records worse than theirs. Their coach is not the problem, he is actually a very good coach, and has taken the Steelers to the Superbowl. So, the Steelers will stay the way they are, with a few additions after the drafts. However, if they were to get a first round draft pick, who would they pick? The entire team sucks right now, from the defense, to the offense (Big Ben being the worst), to the special teams (who give the other team great field position every time). In order for the Steelers to have a winning season they will need the entire first round, with all the picks.

well personally i don't agree with anyone saying that ben making a comment about not getting protection from the o-line is a contributing factor to their losing. granted he has not played very well this year, but even in circumstances where he shouldn't have, ben has stepped up and pointed the finger at himself for losing instead of the obvious short comings with special teams, defense, and yes the offensive line. Point is they are a team, and when one aspect of the team does not perform they all lose, but you can't point the finger at one person because if you watch every game, one aspect of the team is not playing well. Maybe they don't care and aren't "hungry" this year, or maybe it's injuries, troys shoulder was banged up, ben's had numerous problems, and hines had the hamstring issue and the hyper-extended knee, either way there is a lot of potential there and i don't wanna see anyone on that team go, they just need to work out the problems there having and they will be a very good team, so what if they don't make the playoff this year, they have last years ring, and i'm willing to support them regardless.

Jani,
Look, I'll be honest with you. The Steelers were never really that good even though they won the Superbowl last season. You guys were 7-5 at one point last year, and somehow managed to beat the Colts in the playoffs. You got hot at the right time, and we credit your team for that - after all, you did win the Superbowl.
BUT - the steelers are not even the best team in the AFC, let alone the entire NFL.
Sorry, but you need an actual offense and a more consistent defense. Hope you enjoyed your Super bowl last year - cause that's it for as long as can be seen.

As a Browns fan, I'd be lying if I said I was sad to see the Steelers sucking this year. As for why? I can think of two reasons:
1. Losing key players like Bettis, Randle El, and von Oelhoffen to free agency, and not really replacing them.
2. Now that the modern-era team has won a Super Bowl, they don't seem hungry anymore.

The don't have the worst record, that belongs to the Cardnials and Lions. I think the main problem is Big Ben, who is having a god-awful year. I don't think he's had enough time to rcover from his near death motorcycle accident back in June. I say they put Charlie Batch in for the rest of the season until next year. If Batch plays well, maybe they can trade him for another decent player, such a Solid No.2 WR. I can see them doing good next year if Rothisberger has a speedy recovery

the pittsburgh steelers are having a down year due to ben roethlisberger's horrific offseason accident and some key player losses particularly the retirement of jerome bettis and the free agent defection of antwaan randle el nobody has replaced either of those two players and what they bring to the team jerome bettis was a very good 3rd down back and antwaan randle el provided much needed flexibility to the offense as for letting bill cowher go and bringing in a new coach to me that's just ridiculous as bill cowher has abeen a mainstay and fixture to that team and is very valuable in terms of the stability that he brought to the team for all those years as for having the worst record in the league well you don't have to worry about that as teams such as detroit cleveland and oakland and arizona are much worse then pittsburgh is and besides they will be better next year as they will use the disappointment of this year as a motivational factor to do better next year

Several factors - tough schedule as defending champs, Ben had a rough start with accident and operation, and lack of reliable running game, and missing Randle El. Oh - and Cowher's stupid facial hair.

Big Ben has had a hard year. The offense runs threw him. The Defense has been playing flat footed. They just don't seem to have that fire in them. The guy that said something about the Colts well they don't have a ring do they?
