There are stories of Phonecians in Brazil, leaving carvings. The value of that was that the Phonecians also had colonies on the coasts of North Africa, Carthage reputed to be one, so some of those folks might have been there. As for sub-Saharan Africa, if they did it was a colossal accident which escapes common scrutiny because while there were exceptional libraries in norther black africa, since they are gone we can't consult them anymore. Pre-european colonized Africa was not exactly famous for literature--oral transmission was the primary means of carrying on history and stories. Of course, in western civilization if it isn't written down--it didn't happen, right?
