My mother in law held a baby shower for my husband and I one week ago. I purchased picture frames with either the word friend or family imprinted on the wood. I wrote a lovely poem from our unborn daughter thanking everyone for their gift. To my surprise my Mil had my sil write down what everyone purchased at the end of the shower she told me that she would email me everyones address for their thank you letters, Well that was why I did the picture frames, so the question is do I still need to write thank yous, or is the frame enough? Thanks!!!

Personally--I think that the frames are enough--that seems like a very nice gift AND nice a thank you. You thought of everyone, made something personal for them to take home as a keepsake.
AND You also thanked everyone at the shower--sounds like MIL is just saying all that, because thats the traditional thing to do , but you thought of a clever new way to say "thank you" already. Just thank her for the list and she'll figure it out or get over it.
Maybe you could get your dear Hubby, her son, to casually mention how hard you worked on the Thank you frames...
Enjoy this time! Babies are so fun!

The frames are better than plenty. I had a MIL once like that. Actually, doing a lot like she wants might prompt the guests that were there to feel like they have to do something in return for you again starting a big circle! You did great, and with proper ettiquette. I like the frames gift, thanks for the idea!

Assuming you’re going to mail the picture frames to the “givers”, it should be acceptable to include a thank-you from you for the gift they gave. A picture frame and thank you from the baby is good , however a written “thank you” from you for the gift is appropriate.

I think that the frame and poem is an adorable idea and it is defiantly enough. I think that people will appreciate it more and they are more likely to keep it then some people are to keep a thank you card/letter because it is something that they can display and enjoy.

Well for me I would think that the picture frame and poem is thanks enough... you don't really need to write another thank you. I mean you came prepared and did a great job. That is a really thoughtful thing you did... good job.

Your thoughtfulness, I'm sure, will be very much appreciated by all who attend your baby shower. I'm afraid, though, that I agree with your mother-in-law, in that individual thank-you notes should be sent thanking each person for their specific gift.

Thank yous are still required. That way each person gets a thank you note with what they gave you in it and you thanking them for each specific item.
