I totally do this ALL the time. Its just...well...I almost feel like the outside ones aren't as fresh as the inside ones~the ends are also gross because they have that nasty crust on them..

I do, because I never seal the bag correctly and the first few pieces are hard or stale. However I also do this when picking out a magazing in the checkout lane at the store. I don't want a new magazine that's already been pawed through and bent by how many people.

Maybe it's the theory that the best ones are always in the back.

I don't usually go to the third or fourth slice; that's going a bit too far(both literally and figuratively). But I do, as a rule, avoid the end (also called the butt, crust, or heel) for sandwiches. On sandwiches, I like the soft inside of bread. But I don't waste the ends, though. I use them to make quick pizzas or garlic bread.

Yep I do this , those slices look and feel better . I feel bad now because there are people who would love to have that unused bread that I waste .
