Actually in the 80's a deposit of natural gas was discovered on my grandmother's property. The gas company paid royalties to my grandma for the gas there. They paid her large amounts of money, for a 4' x 4' piece of land.
But that was then, this is now. They'd probably have the land confiscated by the government through emminent domain. However, in order to do that, they still have to pay fair market value.

Yes and then they would pay you royalties on how many barrels of oil comes out of the ground. The environo-wackos would not be able to do anything about it and the government would probably give you a fair market value for your property and still pay you royalities on it.

On the face of it, and in the order asked:
No.
Too late.
Nothing.
However some oil company would probably make you a millionaire.
It would help to make sure that you own the mineral rights.
Thank you very much, while you're up.

if you own the mineral rights to your land its all you baby. you could set up the oil thingy. this a big thing in texas and people are getting pissed off because they either don't own the mineral rights or they paid a lot of money for a view that is filled with those oil tower thingies.

Man when Bush was Governor of Texas he tried to rip off a bunch a people for his ball park or stadium whatever with 'Eminit Domain".
Dick and George would sure have drilling rigs and ownership to your property so fast, you would marvel at the incompetence of Katrina.

Are you particular the foul smelling, sludge finding belongings you're calling oil isn't your septic? i don't be attentive to what oil smells or sounds like, yet my wager is which you have a greater effective hazard hitting your septic until now you hit oil. if this is so, you will could call the septic employer. sturdy luck none the less.

No but Exxon would claim that forty years ago they bought the mineral rights from the previous owners.

No, but the company that owns the pipeline in the right of way would bill you for the repair, unless you called DIG SAFE!
