Spybot - Search & Destroy detects and removes spyware, a relatively new kind of threat not yet covered by common anti-virus applications. Spyware silently tracks your surfing behaviour to create a marketing profile for you that is transmitted without your knowledge to the compilers and sold to advertising companies. If you see new toolbars in your Internet Explorer that you haven't intentionally installed, if your browser crashes inexplicably, or if your home page has been "hijacked" (or changed without your knowledge), your computer is most probably infected with spyware. Even if you don't see the symptoms, your computer may be infected, because more and more spyware is emerging. Spybot-S&D is free, so there's no harm giving it a try to see if something has invaded your computer.

I used Avast for nine years plus until last week when I was hit all at once with six trojans and Avast missed all six, plus was not found with a complete scan. Removed an installed "AOL", free antivirus program, powered by Kaspesky Labs.
This program on the first scan found all six trojans and destroyed them. Plus you have a virusshield with boot up an also during the shutdown period. Updates every hour usually automatic.

Personally, I use the AOL AntiVirusShield. Don't let the name AOL scare you. AntiVirusShield is made by Kaspersky which is one of top-rated anti-virus vendors in the world.
In recent tests, the most popular free anti-virus, AVG, was only able to detect about 82% of a very large sample of viruses. On the other hand, AntiVirusShield was able to detect better than 99% in the same test.

AOL AntiVirusShield has excellent virus detection rates and is extremely light on using your computer resources.
Free to anyone, AOL member or not from:
