there is a start circuit that would use a little bit, but if you leave it running very long it would easily make up the difference :)

Your car uses more gas starting up than driving down the road for the same amount of time so its not much unless it takes a long time for start up. As far as damage when you first start the car, well if its been sitting for longer than 3 or 4 hours yes but again its very little. You still have a film of oil on the parts up until that time. Now with the way newer car engines are built with close tolerance's it will take a very long time to WEAR out to the point that you notice a problem. The closer tolerances require thinner oils. That's why you see more 5w/30 10w/30 oils being used. With regular maintenance the engine will be fine for a very long time. My point is TURN THE CAR OFF or the next time you come out it might be gone, or damaged because you were not there when your car decides its time to blow a hose or something. Leaving a car idling for more than a few minutes cause sludge in the engine and it uses more gas! Shut it off

if your going to idle your car for more than about 1 minute its more efficient to turn your car off, otherwise just leave it running if it is less than a minute

the money you will save is so small that its almost non-existant...here would be my concern....everytime you start your car, that is when most engine damage is done....here is why...the oil is all sitting in the oil pan yet it has to turn over several times (without oil) till it starts. i would leave it running just because the engine will last longer.

anytime the engine is running or cranking it is using fuel, the answer to this is self explanatory and should be obvious

good luck
