I don't know any "how to become famous" books, but I do know that it's more of who you know, than what you know.
As long as you know the right people (and this can be accomplished by getting an agent with good connections and who is able to get you auditions for a role or able to get you to a record label company who is willing to listen to your demo cd (depending on what you want to do))
If you have a good resume too that will help you get out there such as modeling (so that they can see that you can handle the limelight and you're able to deal with exposure) then something might happen. Even if you're an extra on something, it's some exposure.
