I would reccomend Metamorphoses, by Ovid. It is a whole lot of short stories about Greek and Roman mythology. It has just about everything worth knowing in there.

The Catch Trap by Marion Zimmer- Bradley reinterprets the Trojan War myth by putting a feminist spin on it. The Iliad, The Odyssey or any of Sophocles' plays are also a good starting point. Many people also like Aristophanes' comedies although I'm not a fan. The first three titles should be underlined but I can't easily do it in this format.
