that's quite simple, it is rooted so deep into us to drink, that we fail to realise just how much we drink. Its a problem that never will be solved, we'll never stop binge drinking in the UK, its part of our way of life.

There's a bit of negative about us Brits here so let me just put in my half pints worth (now I'm an expat too).

We Brits are actually a bit of an emotional bunch who have had a Victorian history thats helped make us a bit uptight. Luckily not as badly as the Germans.

Here's the point - after having quite a stiff history we've now turned into a bunch of people that like to have a good time - thanks also to the previous drinking times, we're well skilled in the art of cramming as much fun into as short a space of time as possible.

Namely - binge drinking.

(Its not healthy tho)

I think the weather that in turn has affected our culture. Whereby due to poor weather the UK are forced towards 'quick highs' & forget the world outside for a night on the 'binge'. Also poor family ties.

I think binge drinkers/heavy drinkers in general ( obviously there will be exceptions )like it so much because being blind drunk removes all the social barriers that we live with and worry about when we are sober .if your drunk you dont think think the next person might be better looking /harder/ more important etc etc etc your inhibitions are gone you think your infalible and can do what you like and don`t give a toss for the consequences, even if its only for a few hours .And i think the feeling is addictive and once you felt like that you keep wanting it again

"Binge" is such a superfluous adjective in regards to drinking.

If you're not "binge drinking"-- what are you doing...
Sipping? Drinking... water? That's not drinking that's a glass of wine with dinner or a cocktail. What a piece of newspeak..

Amixture of things, but unfortunately not many of them are too positive.

Boredom, the price of the beer (ie. its cheap) and the way we have so many role models who drink (and then gointo rehab etc)

the route of it really is this cultural obsession with linking having a good time to getting smashed. its seen as a status former, and getting respect, the more you drink.

people who have uninspiring lives (and/or jobs), or even uninspiring home lifes, get drunk so that they can forgot about their problems for a while (or that they have nothing else to do). however, the vicous circle forms, when the next day the person wakes up and feels terrible that they have got so pissed, and make a fool of themselves, that their self esteem is damaged further, therfore more likely to get smashed the next weekend.

Because we are the only nuggets that live by rules .........

Work 9 to 5 5 days a week ...... so realistically we should only drink on a Friday and Saturday so it does not interfere with work
