when college responses arrive, does a "yes" always come in a large envelope?

not necessarily! i got an unofficial official acceptance in a regular sized letter...basically the dean of the school saying welcome, you'll get your big acceptance packet soon.

In general, an acceptance comes with more materials in the letter so, yes, there could be clues re: it's size/weight.
