Why do you want to buy a laptop?

Will he carry it out of the home to do work on it? Does some requirement exist for him to take a computer place to place?

If no reason exist for a mobile computer, then a laptop is a poor choice relative to price performance against a desk top!

If your reason is,,"I WANT A LAPTOP and other issues don't matter" Then, being it is your money, you should buy a Laptop!

Make or model do not insure you performance/quality for money spent! The cheapest systems are cheap because they are older technology, less performance capability or just plain out and out, a loser! As with anything else we buy, 'THERE IS NO SANTA CLAUSE". All firms are in business to make money, not to sell you something for nothing!

Desktop or Laptop, the screen, if your eyes donot like the on screen display - it is a loser. Your eyes have got to enjoy the display so look at it a long time while deciding.

CPU, today it is a dual core 64bit, buy nothiing less, compare the same one againinst the same model some place else for pricing. Do not compare different models at the same price.

RAM, buy no less than 1GB.

Hard drive - larger size is better, SATA better than IDE, 7200RPM better than 5400 RPM.

Graphic card is better than on board graphics. 256MB graphic RAM is better than 126MB.

WIN XP Pro better than XP home. You want a CD installation disk not a system recovery disk.

DVD burner, not just cd Burner, or CD/DVD-ROM.

BUILD IT YOURSELF, DON'T BUY IT!

Macs are good computers but are ridiculously over priced and take too much control over what you do. I recommend a toshiba. I have one and it's the most reliable. But no one can help you more than your worker at a tech store (future shop, best buy, staples
