One theory is that a gigantic asteroyd crushed into what is now the Mexican Gulf (round shaped, in fact), and the consequences affected the whole planet, let alone poor Aztecs out there...too close to the impact core.
Others say the very same asteroyd distroyed the society of Atlantis, but the inhabitants predicted the impact and managed and run away...more precisely on the constellation of Orion, which, in the subsequent centuries, kept moving away from the earth, so that now they could not be able to return here if they wanted.

Simply put, the Aztecs were decimated by smallpox and warfare after the arrival of the Spanish Conquistadors under Hernando Cortes in 1519-21.

One nite, the Aztecs stayed out too late. They loved to party. On the way home, it was very dark and they didn't have any flashlites and they took the wrong trail . . . Bingo. You know the rest, tho.

Well they believed that a Spanish Conquer was a recarnation of a God, can't remember which one but the name is really a big name one, and instead of just taking their money and living the lap of luxery as they would have offered him he killed them off. Now if you are thinking of the Mayans instead they literally just disappered and no one really can answer why.
