Is 280 a good FPS for a airsoft rifle?

it depends on what kind of rifle.

if it's a spring rifle i wouldn't buy anything under 300 fps, if it's a pistol then it's excelent

If it's an AEG then it's probably an MEG (middle-range electric gun) and is decent for a gun, i wouldn't pay any more than 100 dollars on an AEG that does 280. and if it's an aeg i'd say spend the little bit more and go for a 300fps (mainly because if it does 300 stock it will probably be a TM or Classic army and those you can upgrade to 500+fps)
