Fox. They want a championship game between east coast and west coast teams. It will help there ratings on the west coast. It's there first year of coverage of the bcs.

First is they get over-ranked simply because they are a West Coast team and the Human polls are trying to make up for the percieved East Coast Bias.
Second alot of teams already have one loss so it is going on who they have WINS against instead
Third alot of teams have TWO losses which pushes USC as a ONE loss team ahead of them
Fourth I am SICK OF MICHIGAN FANS WHINING, next year start your season later so you aren't sitting idle when teh other teams still have a game or two to play. The Big East still has games next week and the teams that don't finished this week. If you the Big Ten doesn't want to keep in the BCS and Human Polls by not sitting Idle at hte end of the year when all the other teams are playing then DON'T WHINE when your team falls.

USC is a good team that has beat other ranked teams in the past years to make them ranked even though they lost once. If you look at the rankings the other ranked teams have one loss. Michigan is #2 and has a loss. Its just the way the BCS works. USC has also beat good teams, making them ranked. Arkansas, Nebraska, California, Oregon, Notre Dame. All good reasons USC is still ranked.

rankings take into account more than just who a team loses to.
USC is a great football team; and they have shown it by beating a bunch of ranked teams. their loss to oregon state really wasn't that bad. they played at oregon state, who is bowl-eligible with an 8-4 record, and almost came back to tie it up.
they play a tough schedule and have been playing great football lately. they tripped-up in the middle of the season but they are pouring it on. they definitely deserve their high ranking.
with your narrow view of rankings, boise state should be tied for #1 because they haven't lost to anyone. better yet, everyone who lost to ohio state should be ranked in the top 10 because they lost to the #1 ranked team. that's just absurd.
you should read more articles and follow college football a little more.

Out of conference scheduling ---
Just a point for all to consider -- The reason Michigan currently is #3 has to do with scheduling Vanderbilt, Central Michigan, and Ball State.
USC scheduled Notre Dame, Nebraska, and Arkansas.
Scheduling "easy" opponents might look good in the W/L record, but it will kill you every time in the strength of schedule department.
