yes, there are a lot of 'new' prog bands: Porcupine Tree (who i saw with 2 guys from King Crimson open up for), tool (although they both were in the 90s too), mars volta, radiohead, opeth, dream theater
these bands might not always fit the old prog description and have other influences in them but still can be said to be what is prog today

actually due to popular belief...Prog rock is making a comeback...kids are finding out ( atleast here in Indianapolis) Prog rock has alot of musical merit...
kids who are musicians daily ask me about dream theater, Marillion, king crimson, opeth, liquid tension and various other bands..
it is doing my heart good to see kids like this..and not all listening to EMO ( all music is emotional) or rap music

No. People like stale, mediocre music. People don't have the attention span to try and listen to something that's more than 3 or 4 minutes, with intricate song structures with improvisation.
