1. A second darkness would descend, like unto the one that forced the Elder race to confront Sauron in Mordor at the end of the Second Age. The Ring is so much a part of Sauron that, if he regains it, he regains himself in his full power. He is whole again, something he has not been since Isildur cut the Ring from his finger.

2. If Sauron gets the Ring, all the races of Middle Earth that he charmed with gifts of the Great Rings will be instantly visible on all levels; the Elven Rings will be seen by Sauron, and the Elves will be vulnerable to the One Ring. Every time Frodo puts on the Ring, he is visible to Sauron in a sort of "radar" sense. Sauron can feel the Ring and the Ring is trying to get back to Sauron. The Ring could be taken in the usual way, but it has to be located first, and that is where Frodo's responsibility lies. If he puts on the Ring, Sauron can home in on him and be that much closer to regaining the Ring.

3. Frodo believes his vision of enlightened rule at the end of all things on Mt. Doom; he is wearing the Ring, but in reality, he is unable to wield it (as no one but Sauron can do so, save Gandalf or Galadriel, perhaps, and even then, they would simply turn into a version of the Dark Lord-reference Galadriel's Mirror). If the Nazgul had physically reached Frodo, he would have been uniquely vulnerable, caught in the wraith world, as he was on Weathertop. They would have taken the Ring and Sauron would have crushed Frodo utterly. It's a good thing Gollum was there!

4. Gollum is utterly enslaved to the Ring, and he entered into his 'addiction' in an evil, inauspicious way, murdering Deagol in order to have the Ring for himself. His nature was mean andthe Ring enhanced this, so that he was cast out, and all that he had left was his solitude and the Ring. When he loses the Ring, he becomes like a lifelong junkie who is eternally strung out and will never be whole until he has his Precious again, even though it would destroy him--a very good parallel to addictive behavior.

5. He began to make deep gurgling throat noises as he was on the path to utter degradation from his enslavement to the Ring. He forgets his name and simply takes this descriptive one. What was Smeagol has been utterly corrupted by his greed for the One Ring.

6. There is no book or film that follows the events of LOTR; the Hobbit is a prequel from about 60 years before the beginning of LOTR. (Bilbo is 50 in The Hobbit, and he is celebrating his eleventy-first birthday as LOTR opens.) There are short tales of what happens to the various players in the great saga; the appendices tell of the story of Aragorn and Arwen and the end of their lives; there are brief parts about Sam's fortunes, Merry and Pippin moving in together at Crickhollow, Pippin becoming Thain of the Shire eventually, Legolas and Gimli travelling together many places, the final journeys of Merry and Pippin to Rohan and Gondor, to whom they remain pledged to the end of their lives, the special dispensation granted to Gimli to travel West due to his great service and devotion to Galadriel, all kinds of hints and family trees and histories and the like. Tolkien is a true completist with Middle Earth, and while there are many gaps to fill in, there is a rich world to discover in his books about Middle Earth!

1) If Sauron had retrieved the ring, darkness would fall on middle-earth. This time, he would be even stronger than before, and would be able to destroy Gondor, Rohan, The Shire, etc. Rivendell would be the last to fall, but would still be destroyed.

2) Sauron would be whole again, and so could have his full power. He could then control all 9 Nazgul 24-7, and the elves which possessed the three rings (although that isn't strictly true, one of the three elvish rings is held by Gandalf, who is a Maiar not an elf) would be vulnerable. Sauron already possessed the 7 dwarvish rings, so he'd be even more powerful

3) If Frodo put on the ring it would call out stronger than ever to Sauron and the Nazgul. The ringwraiths would capture Frodo and convert him to another Black Rider (by stabbing him with a Morgul-blade, like they did on weather-top but Frodo was healed by the elves). Frodo would then take the ring to Sauron.

4) Gollum had owned the ring for many years. During this time, he had only had the ring to keep him alive; if he did not have the ring he couldn't capture goblins and would have aged to much. With every second of having the ring, your desire to keep it gets stronger and stronger.

5) The ring's dark power corrupted Smeagol more and more. He begun to call himself Gollum, and forgot his real name. Also, he thought the ring (aka precious) was literraly a part of himself.

6) There are no follow-ons to The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings. However, there are things that happened before The Hobbit, as in 'The Silmarillion' another book by Tolkien. Also, there are other middle earth related books:
The Adventures of Tom Bombadil
The History of Middle-Earth, books 1-12
The Children of Hurin
The History of the Hobbit
A few others (I think)

1 Sauron would become master of all Middle-Earth.
2 The ring would give him control of all the other rings. Even the ones worn by Elrond,Galadriel, and Gandalf and all would be enslaved.
3 Frodo would have become Evil.
4 Gollum had the ring so long He was corrupted by it.
5 Smeagel killed Deagel to take the ring which made him easier to corrupt and over time he became Gollum.
6 The Hobbit comes before not after Lord of the Rings and There are no other books about the Hobbits or the ring. There is a book called Unfinished Tales which gives more details about Middle-Earth and its History but it ends with The war of the Ring.
There is also a book called The Silmarrilion which is set in an earlier time.

1. Sauron would become whole again instead of just the all seeing eye.

2. The ring is his source of power and magic and would bring him back to life.

3. He would turn invisible.

4. Gollum mind has been corrupted by the ring and has driven him crazy.

5. The power of the ring caused him to change and go insane.

6. The first story of the Hobbit hasn't been made into a feature length film yet but there is a good cartoon version put out years ago. Next came Lord of the Ring: The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers and then The Return of the King. All followed the basic story line of the books but details or side story's are always left out for time sake and to make the story more suitable for Hollywood.

1. If Sauron got the ring, darkness and evil would rule middle earth
2. He could have obtained the ring in various ways, but my best guess would be, the Ring Wraiths would kill the person bearing the ring and give it to Sauron
3. Frodo became invisible when he put the ring on his finger, but, the weight of bearing the ring was slowly driving him insane as it did Smeagel.
4. The ring is powerful and it consumes the person who has it.
5. Gollum was the dark side of Smeagel that turned to murder to be the sole owner of the ring.
6. The Hobbit was the first story and then LOTR Fellowship of the Ring...LOTR The Two Towers...and finally LOTR The Return of the King.

1. Sauron would cover the land in darkness.
2. He would return to his bodily form and take over.
3. Frodo would eventually be drawn into darkness like the Nine Kings of Old, the Ring Wraiths.
4. Gollum had possession of the Ring before Bilbo Baggins took it (this happened in The Hobbit). The Ring calls to you, making you think you cannot live without it.
5. Smeagol murdered his best friend for the Ring, and went into hiding in the mountains. That, combined with the Ring's own unearthly powers and being deprived of light, changed him.
6. The Hobbit is the tale of Bilbo Baggins' discovery of the Ring, and was written before The Fellowship.

Have you read the Hobbit? They added small things from that story into the Fellowship the movie, such as Bilbo's tale to the children, about the trolls being turned to stone.

1 - Sauron would have returned totally and irrevocably for ever.
2 - Frodo gave in to darkness in the end. It was only Golums intervention which almost by accident cast the ring into the fires of doom, where it was destroyed.
3 - He would have become into Sauron's awareness and would have been captured and destroyed and the ring would have returned to Sauron.
4 - Because he had it for 500 years and it had created total slavery and obsession to it in Gollums mind.
5 - by the evil power of the ring which consumed his mind with darkness.
6 - 1st is The Silmarillion, 2nd The Hobbit, and 3rd Lord of the Rings. These are our prehistory - history to the present is the story that follows after in the world of men, after the passing of the Eldar.

5. He has a split personaity from the ring. The ring makes him do evil things.

1. He would bring the world to darkness and rule over it.
2. He would make more powerful armies to conquer more lands and eventually take over everything.
3. Frodo would be invisible, but the Ring Wraiths can find him easily.
4. Because it's his precious.
5. The ring just made him go crazy. He was obsesed with it so much that it took over him, and made him have some sorta another soul or thing living in him.
6. I don't know yet. but they say Legolas and Gimli start a journey on their own to somewhere, and Aragorn became king, then he eventually died.

i have seen all 3 films too, and they should continue making a final Lord of the Rings movie just to see what really happened to the whole Fellowship.
