I have dozens of wild tukeys lving in the woods behind my house. But I can never find one of their nests and never see any babys.

Where do they make there nests? (I thought it was on the ground but I could be wrong)

What do there nests look like?

How do I find one?

(ANother question. Same thing, but with owls. Losts of owls. No nests. Where can I find one?)

turkeys do build nests on the ground. They can be very secretive and the nests are pretty well camouflaged. The females are VERY skiddish, and if you find the nest while the female is incubating they are very likely to abandon the nest. Most owls nest in trees, some species nest in hillsides, banks, and underground (Burrowing Owls). Owls do not build their own nests, but usually take over an old hawks nest. They are usually quite large and made of sticks.

They do nest on the ground, and the female will sit very tight. The nest is just a little depression with a bunch of eggs in it. You can be standing there for a little while before she'll spook. But I heard they are prone to abandoning if you disturb them too much, so whenever I flush one, I just keep on walking past it.

Most owls nest in cavities in trees.

The turkeys nest on the ground to lay eggs but they roost in trees at night. If you want to find the turkeys in a concentrated group, get a crow call from Wal-Mart and right before sunrise go into the woods and use the crow call, you will be amazed at how many turkeys roost together. They respond to the crow call as a sort of territorial threat.
