I took the PSV driving test about 5 years ago and passed 100% in the theory test after reading the book for about a day. I did a mock standard driving test with a friend who was revising for it and the only thing I got wrong was not knowing what a yellow R on a green background in a rectangular sign meant so yes I think I'd do fine.

Yes most drivers would be able to pass the test with a bit of work, they might get stuck on the hazard perseption cause its designed for learner drivers. They tend to anticipate the hazard and click to early.
The only thing is that most people just learn for the test and then thats it, they do very little refresher training over thier driving life, and the best thing people can do is training over the years by doing HGV or bike tests, you find that those drivers are normaly very good and knowlegable.

well, i've heard that the theory test is supposed to contain questions that require more common sense than anything else, so i am pretty confident that i would pass..... although i'm not so sure that i would pass the old driving test now, because they used to ask u questions at the end of the old test, usually about breaking distances.... and i can't remember any of those !!!

I hope so, as the driving instructor I had was always asking questions about te road layout, traffic signs etc, and that was over 20years ago! Perhaps he knew something then, but didn't want to let on.
Anyway, aren't the questions related to the highway code, which you still had to study and have an understanding of before the theory test was established.

I can't answer for myself as I passed after the theory test came in. But if a question came up about the speed limit on single carriageway roads, plenty of older drivers would fail miserably as they all seem to think it's 50mph!

Absolutely - these drivers have been driving many years and have the knowledge and experience to breeze through because, being older, they are more responsible and make it a point of keeping up to date.

I guess so - but I haven't looked at it. I had to take a theory test in Australia and that was ok after a bit of study.

The theory test is incredibly easy. If you can't pass it, you shouldn't be allowed out of the house on your own, never mind in a car.
