If you meant "Gothic", I can help you. In the early middle ages, there were a group of people living in the north of Europe who wore strange clothes and acted noticeably different from the rest of the Europeans. The region of the country they came from was known as the Gothic region.
The reason they were different is because they were descended from some early Nordic explorers.
From this early use of the word, the term Gothic has been applied to people who dress and act differently from the mainstream. Many people like to call themselves Gothic because they believe that means they are not like other people. Of course, it has become a joke, or, even worse, when a so-called Gothic person commits a horrible crime.

Gothic comes from the tribe called the Goths that ran around in central Europe at the time of the Roman Empire. Later, cathedrals began to be built in areas (current day Germany and France) where the Goths once ran used pointed arches. The arch and the cathedrals became known as Gothic.

As adphllps stated, the Goths were one of the many tribes (i.e. "barbarians") that tried to enter the Roman Empire in its late (and last) stage. Other "barbarians" were the Visgoths and Huns (although there were others). As the settlement of these "barbarians" in Europe led to the Middle Ages (although this is an oversimplification), their culture and building style set the tone for Medieval religious architecture.
