Why does it take sooooo long to burn video files to DVDs???

I just bought a digital camcorder and am putting all my video on dvds via firewire and windows movie maker, but its taking 2 hours to copy one hour of video. whats up? is there any faster way?

I like to do the conversions overnight. They do take forever, sadly.

DVD has to package the content you are burning in a format and then burn to disk. DVD's take a long time for everyone.
