Not what is the point of life in general, as this is far too hard to define; so what meaning have you attributed to your own life and how do you go about executing that? What long-term benefits do you see from your consequent actions, that make your life have meaning?

Have you ever read Plato's 'the Republic'? This answered that question for me, especially in Socrates refutation of Thrasymachus' argument regarding machiavellian (my word) behavior. The point of my life as I see it is to play the role of someone in a just society, even if that society doesn't exist. Even if I'm a 'sucker' that will always get trampled on, at least I'll be one teeny tiny (necessary but insuffient) piece of the just society I would like to be a part of. I try like hell to avoid lying and power moves; for me 'random acts of kindness' was not an early 90s fad. I'm not saying I'm an angel by any stretch of the imagination, but trying is a good start...

My life has been nothing but a learning experience, full of mistakes! Now that I am past middle age,I look back at my past life and do not even recognize the person I was, and the choices I made thirty years ago!I now realize I had a repeated pattern I followed for many years. My biggest challenge is over coming FEAR of CHANGE!So now in my 50's I have changed many things in my life.I have a new job, after being self-employed for almost 20 years, and this is not easy, but definitely necessary!I am missing my old life ,friends, and creative expression. Now was the time for this change,or in ten years I would end up financially devastated and alone.I believe in Karma and think I am following the signs shown to me within my soul.Whatever happens is meant to be,even when it is very hard.Itry to be the best person I can.Hopefully it will pay off in the end.

To decrease pain and increase pleasure....all else will be lost to oblivion. Oh sure, i make a difference to my children and those around me. But in a few generations, all my accomplishments will be forgotten, unless i'm an Alexander the Great or Hitler type person, i'll just be a name etched on a tombstone or inked on a family tree. But even those will eventually turn to dust in a millenia.

God is the focal point of my life. I'm not making temporary goals, I'm making eternal ones, for only eternity gives our actions weight and meaning. I have found immense salvation, freedom, and strength in Jesus. In gratitude to him, and by faith in that same Word that set me free in the beginning, I will continue to serve him forever. Long term benefits? A better life on earth, and an eternal life in heaven! :) I hope to see you there too someday!

To embrace life to the fullest. Good and bad, you can always learn something. I like to learn new things and new ways to do old things. The ultimate bottom line is LIFE and that is the POINT.
