Society ISN'T, but TV executives are. Why?
1. Extremely cheap to make
2. Gets people to phone in to vote, making the execs MILLIONS.
3. It does appeal to some base, moralising smugness (eg. I'm not as fat, ugly, stupid and shallow as Jade Goodey) that does seem to permeate society today.

This part of society isn't... but then... I've lived sixty-one years of serious reality that most people couldn't handle... and I don't need a TV shrink and five minutes of TV fame, to air it with... and when one day these sad and lonely and lost souls, begin to understand the fact that they are being used and exploited by self serving celebrities, I'll really feel sorry for them! Say twenty years from now, when their children cringe inside, while viewing re-runs!

Because there is no more community, most live solitary lives and rely on reality TV and Soap Operas to replace this human need to 'belong'.
Society becomes like a battery farm, where we are all tied to our debts, working, watching TV and sleeping, working, watching TV and sleeping etc etc. We rely on reality TV (and Soaps) for contact with what we have been lead to believe are 'real' people.
Sad ain't it!

I guess all those people who said they hate reality TV is because their real world is on the internet. Reality TV, while cheap to make, wouldn't be on if people didn't watch. Advertisers run TV. No audience, no ads. No ads, no money, goodbye show.
People like them for the same reason they like game shows. Real people getting a chance to win something. It also gives you a chance to cheer for or jeer against. Like sports. Good team vs bad team. I love them. I'd like to give BB a shot.

It sucks. People like Jade Goodie becoming famous for what?
It makes people who are lazy think they can become famous by not putting in any effort and hard work. Look at the real entertainers who have stood the test of time.
That jungle one is shite, big brother is moronic and the TV companies have an easy ride in producing this drivvel forgoing producing good quality programmes!

Not all is. Most people are afraid to do things themselves, what they really wish to. They just go about themselves with this feeling of "someone is watching me" and they act like they have a purpose in all that they do. It's why most people cannot relax on vacation, the constant need to feel busy. Perhaps trained to that from all the industrial work, fear of being caught offtask and thus losing their job and security. I find that many people like to live vicariously through celebrities lives or events because they themselves do not have it, or perhaps aspire to it. Basically, they like the drama and business of actually having things to talk about, which probably doesn't happen in their normal everyday lives.

Because of the low intelligence of the audience.
I desperately try and avoid the TV when it's on.
The amazing thing is how obvious is the cynical manipulation of the audience by the TV producers. They must be laughing all the way to their off-shore banks.

I wish I knew why people watch this crap. Don't they have Sky TV? or any hobbies? So they have to watch whatever comes on terrestrial.
None of the untalented morons on the shows deserve the money. It could go to better causes. The priority's of the producers are wrong.
