There are so many countries out there that are worth visiting...

I think it depends on what you fancy... I might want somewhere lively and busy or feel like disconnecting from the rest of the world.

I think it's very important to see some sort of history when you visit a country. For example places like New York or Australia wouldn't appeal to me as most of what is on offer seems to be very recent.

I'd actually go for a country like Spain. I know this country has the 'budget holiday' mark written all over it, but if you avoid the touristic places (eg. the costas) and visit the inner Spain instead, you'll be pleasantly surprised with the beauty, history, culture, traditions, food, people and of course, the weather!. It seems to be a real difference between southern and northen Spain. People from the South tend to keep all their values and traditions, while those from the North are becoming more European. Again, the Spanish Balearic and Canary Islands offer a totally different, but still nice way of life. Spain is trully amazing with places like Granada, Sevilla, Barcelona, Madrid, the Canaries, etc.

I think that Japan will surprise me a lot!!!. I think that their way of life is sooooo different from ours, that I would even suffer from a culture shock, but I believe that it will be worth visiting just to experience that. At the end of the day, I don't want to spend the rest of my life under the ilusion of the 'Western Society' being the best in the world as nations like the US and UK want to make us believe.

But again, it's up to each one of us what we fancy, like or dislike... just remember, experience the culture and don't just look at buildings once and spend the rest of your holiday laying on beaches!!! that would be a waste of time and money.

The best place I have ever visited is Russia. I lived and worked there for 18 months and it's just amazing. My ambition is to see all the ex-Soviet States and Soviet occupied countries. Doing quite well, been all over Russia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Belarus and Ukraine. Next up is Moldova and Georgia next summer. I can't explain what draws me to them. Russia feels like home now.

I think a country that would surprise me is Japan or China. The image in my head is of too many people in too small an area and lots of noise and stress. I'm sure it's very different though.

Which country would you go to and Why? Russia - Eastern Siberia anyway.......like the mountains

What makes you want to go there? Sightseeing and no bear traffic jams

What country do you think would surprise you and Why? - China
I expect it would be oppressive and I would be scared to go anywhere but just the history alone would surprise me. A country that has been around for 5,000 years is awesome.

I'd go to the U.S.A, as it's the home of the free and the brave and contains such variety. The weather, the atmosphere and the possiblities are what wants me to go there, that and the fact that i was born there, but left at a young age.I'm intrigued by it,as it isn't that old and so therefore no real history, yet in so many ways it's successful and powerful and i feel that even with a basic understanding of the place it'd still surprise me.

Every country has something different to offer you.
Personally I prefer the Mediterranean countries such as Spain, Italy, Greece or Cyprus.
Those countries are combining beautiful coasts and landscapes, warm climate, friendly people (usually), nice hotels for all budgets and tasty food recipes. The choice is yours.

I would want to go to more than one country. If it could only be one, I'd go to Italy. Because I'm trying to learn to speak Italian and I love the Italian people and the differences between the various regions.

I don't understand the difference between "Why would I got there?" and "What makes me want to go there?" To me, they're the same.

I think China would surprise me most, because I am sure it is very varied and must be different from my preconceived ideas

I would love to see Israel because there are still edifices and sights that were from biblical times. I would like to walk in Jerusalem and walk and see the roads that Jesus walked, go to the Wailing Wall, Lazarus' tomb, Via Dolorosa, Nazareth, and so, so many other places in and surrounding Jerusalem. I would like to see old synagogues and churches, the Church of the Holy Sepluchre, and too many other places too numerous to mention.

However, there are many other countries like Spain, Italy and France and Greece I would still like to visit. But I think Israel would be my #1 destination.

Why, out of all the nations in the world are the world's eyes mostly focused on the goings on in Israel?

I love rural Scotland, a half hours drive from my front door and it seems that I'm in a different country!

might want to go to Lichtenstein in the future, just to see the false teeth factory!

I went to Ireland last October. Did the whole country. North, south, east and west. I loved Galway the best. It is on the coast.
In January, I will be flying to Athens, Greece and Cairo and Alexandria Egypt. Ought to be a hoot.
In answer to your question, I'd live in Ireland if it were possible.
