You have to have the account number.
The tellers aren't allowed to look up an account for someone other than the account holder, simply for security purposes. As well as following a Privacy Policy. Even if it is just a "deposit" and not taking any money out, it is still against banks Privacy Policy to look up an acct if it is not the account holder present. By doing that, one can be breaking Privacy Policy when looking up an acct that will actually disclose someone actually has an acct at that particular bank. Its happened many times when an exboyfriend/girlfriend wanted to make a "dep" into an acct simply to find out if someone they know banks there.

My parents do this for me all the time ... if you are simply making a deposit, all you need is a deposit slip and cash, check, etc.You can possibly make a deposit without a deposit slip ... simply your parents name (this depends on the bank policies). You may also get the checking account number and routing number at the bottom of a check and provide this to the bank.

that is the beauty of banking now these days, you can do that since a lot of bank have a branch all across united states.

if you know the account number, you can deposit to their bank anywhere as long as it is cash, (check required endorsement by the payee), you can request to memo post the total deposit if its urgent for your folks to get the funds. usually it takes a day to post, once you deposit, the available funds is $100 for their convenience..

for your information, the bank teller will not let you know the balance since your name is not on the account. keep the receipt as a proof of deposit just in case it encounter a discrepancy...

but if this will be a repetitive transaction, you need to have an account with the same bank, talk to the personal banker to set a monthly transfer that you don't need to be present to deal with the transaction...

but if you don't have an account with the same bank as your parents, go to your own bank, set up a wire transfer as long as you have important information like the account number, bank's name, the bank's address and if possible the routing number to send the wire, there will be a transaction fee sending the wire and it is usually effective but costly...

Banks will usually not allow it without the approval the the account holder. If you are planning to do it periodically and both have Bank of America accounts it can be done online as a transfer.
