i av a pentium d pc and when im on the internet its quiet but then it makes a noise as if sum thing is starting up does anyone know wht this is?

Do you have a cd in drive?

make sure you don't have a CD in any of the drives. A noisy fan can be the problem. Another sign of noise is a hard drive going bad, but it wouldn't sound like a constant hum.

My guess would be the processor fan. Try taking the side off of your pc to check. If it is the fan and its only recently that you've noticed the noise, its probably due to dust build up and needs a good clean.
