I was having this debate with a friend and want to know what y'all think.

The members of Godsmack are huge Alice In Chains fans. Their name is an Alice In Chains song off the album "Dirt" as well as the fact that their logo is a variation of the Alice In Chains sun logo. But as to who they sound more like... I would say that the singer wishes he could imitate Layne's voice, but it comes out as more of a mix of the two bands in question. I'd say that you and your friend have reached a stalemate because this guy sounds like both James, and Layne combined. Perhaps a bit more metallica sounding due to the deepness of his voice.

I would say Metallica -- James Hetfield has a deep voice like the singer of Godsmack

The metallic drive metallica use to have with a AIC sound on the vocals.more metallica style when they were a metal band

I don't really think they sound much like either one, but if I must pick then I would say Alice in Chains.

are you people kidding me? they are a rip of alice in chains. i might be wrong on this, but im pretty sure that they even got their name from an AIC song.
