I have a very close friend, who i think is gay. He has a lot of close female friends. He has trouble getting a "girlfriend". He is very handsome too! He dresses very well, and he's very funny. Every woman that he tries to date says, "oh! i thought you were gay!" I don't think that all gay men fit into a cookie cutter, but i have a gut feeling that he's afraid of comming out. How can I support him? I have many gay family members as well, but i have never known someone to be in such "denial".

If this is genuine, the best way you can support him is by being a shoulder to lean on without judging him.

Well, for starters, you can't decide that someone else is gay. Stop worrying about it. If he wants to be straight, let him. If he decides he is gay, be happy for him.

I am sure anybody would want their friends to see them as people first, and to respect thier decisions as being what they consider the best for them. If your friend bought a VW Bug instead of an SUV even though you thought the SUV would fit his needs better, would you make a big deal out of it? Probably not. Let him be whatever he wants.

I think you should confront him. I'm almost 30 and have only been out of the closet for about 4 years. If I knew that it would have been as easy as it was I would not have suffered for all those years pretending I was someone that I'm not. He may need a friend like yourself to give him the push he needs. Good Luck!

He might not be gay. Consider it. I personally know of one person in particular who sets off all the typical bells but is actually very heterosexual.

All you can do is be there for him to talk to and be as suppotive as you can. If he is gay, he'll come out when he is ready

it's up to him to figure out his sexual orientation, it sounds like it doesn't matter to you so just leave it alone. i don't think it helps him much to have friends and potential girlfriends telling him he is gay if he isn't.
