i own a repair shop, and any number of things can cause this to happen to one ,,a bad egr valve will cause it to die,and also one that is tuned badly will die like this,, id start looking at the plugs in it,and see if them and the air filter are good, and also a fuel filter will cause this to occur on one,,you can take it by by auto zone, and have them check it for any trouble codes, and that might help narrow it down for you ,and the check is free ,so it wont cost you nothing to find out what it might be ,and if no trouble codes come up on it,,id start checking small things on it ,,good luck,i hope this has helped.

Adjust the idle speed. You should be around 750-850 in park or Neutral. If its not, you can adjust it by looking under the hood on top of the throttle body there is a brass screw back it off a 1/4 turn or so until it idles where it should be.

Get a mechanic to check your transmission. My car would stall on me no matter where I was and then the gears locked up on me. Don't go anywhere until you check out that transmission. I was very lucky that nobody got hurt. If you wait to long the gears will start slipping on you as they did with me. The longer you wait the more costly it will be for you.

Tickovers probably out of phase. Can be caused buy many things but if I were you I'd just remember to rev up a little before engaging drive, and keep your foot on the brake at the same time. Probably worn injectors meaning it isn't getting enough fuel to keep running.

Man that sounds like its not a simple fix! better show it to a mechanic or something. Looks like some kind of tranmission failure (gearbox related possible) cos the engine works but the gearbox seems to fail when sending the engine's power to the wheels.

I am in no way an expert on these things but thought id share my thoughts on this.

ON FOrd engines, the IAC is detachable for cleansing. Get your EGR wiped sparkling up, too, as severe carbon will clog it up, TOO!!! solid success!!!

IAC, or idle air control switch faulty, see this controls idle on vehicle, and when you put vehicle into gear it slightly raises rpm's so it doesn't stall. More than likely this is whats wrong
