Here's my unbiased opinion of both:

PSP was made for its capabilities. Music, web browsing, movies, pictures, not to mention better visuals than the DS. But, most of the games SUCK. The GTA games and an RPG are all I'd want for it. Also, since it runs on UMD's, little disc things, the battery runs down quicker than the DS.

The DS was made just to play games. Sure, someone created a web browser for it, the Opera, but it's not all that great. With the touch screen, loads of games are getting more creative. Not only that, I'd recommend a lot more games for the DS than the PSP: Mariokart, Meteos, Pheonix Wright, Pokemon Diamond/Pearl (future). The list goes on.

My pick is the DS.

Frankly, I have a bias that will make my answer lean towards the DS, but I'll try to answer the best I can, fairly.

First, the PSP is more expensive than the DS.
If you want to focus on multimedia, then PSP does that.
The games are stored on UMD disks, which I find awkward.
But I find that the PSP tried to focus too much on the UMD movies, which has pretty much flopped by now.

DS games are on small cards that are about the same size as a memory stick for a camera.
The DS's main selling point is the touch screen and two screens. The top screen is NOT a touch screen, but you only need the bottom to be a touch screen, so there's really not a problem.

There are, overall, many more better games for the DS than the PSP. If you like Mario and Co, Zelda, etc, then DS is the only way to go.

For some games on the PSP, I can only recommend Me and my Katamari.

For the DS, I recommend WarioWare: Touched, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, Mario Kart DS, Super Princess Peach, New Super Mario Bros, Tetris DS, Brain Age, Electroplankton, Yoshi Touch and Go, and Yoshi's Island DS.
There are many more good games, but those are the top of the bunch in my opinion.

In the end, you will have to decide on if you want to focus on the games (DS) or focus on the "multimedia" aspect of the PSP, but you would also have to deal with the lame UMD disks.

It depends what you want.

PSP is a nice piece of kit with mp3 player, video player, umd player (movies) , wi fi , basic interet, store photos. But the games are pretty much the same as PS2 games.

Nintedo DS lite is not as powerful as the PSP. It has wi fi play and just plays games. However it has a touch screen which changes the way you play games.plus two screens which is very interesting. But the DS has no other extras its just good for orignal games. Games are also £5 - £10 cheaper on the DS. The DS lite is also cheaper. DS games are quick to play on the go and are easy to pick up and play.

The bottom line is the DS lite offers alot of unique games that are not on any other console or the games play alot better due to the touch screen. 90% of the PSP's games are on the PS2 and they play better on the PS2 BUT the PSP is a nice gadget and the games are still good.

DS.

I own both, the PSP has better capabilities but if I want an mp3 player, i'll carry something smaller than a PSP and the few movies out for PSP are too small to enjoy on the screen. It runs out of power too quick too and has games which are mostly not particularly good.

DS has better games, can play GBA games too, is more original and the battery lasts for ages. It's generally more fun overall.

I prefer the DS, its smaller, runs for longer on a single charge (My DS will play for a couple of days on a charge, whereas my mates PSP only seems to play for half that time), zero loading times and plays all my GBA titles too.

While there are a few games on the PSP i would like to try, there isn't really a killer-app for me to actually buy the machine.

whereas the DS has Castlevania, Mario, Mario Kart, and soon Zelda and Final Fantasy III (I already have I, II, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX, X, X-2, and XI)

I've owned both but from my point of view i loved the ds lite better and the games are so much fun and better. and cheaper. If u are interested on online games they are easier and better on connecting.
PSP games are mainly a remakes of the ps2, and the ds are very new and unique. Plus if u like all that mp3 and movie stuff, DS has add-ons.
