I woke up this morning and happened to look outside to see something that surprised me...its the people who seemed to have moved in overnight because they were not there yesterday.....

Well, the people who have moved in are white, surrounded by mostly blacks.....The thing about this sitiuation is that the new white neighbors has put a post into the ground with a rebel flag flying!!!!!!

Yes, he has a right to do this but I would think he's trying to start some controversy trouble. There may be a couple white people in this neighborhood, theres no problem with them.....Why does these people have to post thier flag in a black community if they are not trying to cause disturbance???

I live in Kentucky so I'm used to seeing the rebel flag. They argue that it's their heritage. I still think it's completely disrespectful to African Americans and the progress that we've all made as a society. The flag is just to reminiscent of a not so distant past that was filled with nightmares.

I did a research report about the flag my senior year of high school. I found that most people who proudly display that flag don't even know everything that it represents. And I hate those shirts that say If this shirt offends you then you need a history lesson. I just want to scream, I've had my history lesson redneck. You're the one who needs to get an education. The civil war is over, the rebels lost, and we have a new national flag. OMG!! Yes, that much has really changed.

Oh I just wanted to add b/c I read something above me about it not representing racism. After losing the war six Confederate veterans started the Ku Klux Klan. The Klan grew quickly with the addition of more former rebel soldiers. They reeked violence such as rape, murder, beatings, lynching, and burnings on African Americans.

When you display the American flag on your shirt it’s because you support America and it’s cause. By displaying the rebel flag you are in turn saying you support the rebels and their cause. You may argue that it’s your heritage, but that can be debated. If an Indian wore a shirt displaying a swastika and then explained to you that before it was a symbol of hate it was an Indian symbol for good luck (which is true). Would you be any less outraged? Would this appear any less disrespectful to the Jews and the American soldiers who fought in WWII? After all it is his heritage, right?

The flag stood for so much wrong in the past that you can't wipe away all of that hate. There's nothing you can do to make that flag okay. It's racist and it's disrespectful.

Well, you know it is what that flag stands for. I am not Black, but I avoid that flag myself. I wouldn't want to live in that neighborhood. I have nothing in common with that type of people and it would be quite tense. I have Black friends and would want to invite them to visit me in my house, and Indians, and all kinds of people. I guess that flag keeps it to be a little redneck ghetto, doesn't it? Now I am from the mid-West and not all Southern or Western people are racist, and they don't go around flying that flag. Is that really where you want to live? And if you decide to stay what will you do?

The "rebel" flag isnt a symbol of racism anymore. Since the flag was used in the civil war it is automatically related to racism. Which is totally fair on some parts. However in these times the southern flag mostly represents heritage, not hate. It is more of a pride symbol of where we came from. Since my family is from the south, I have alot of t-shirts and little knick-nacks with the southern flag on it; but that by no means makes me racist. Now I am not speaking directly for these people, but maybe that's what they have; heritage for where they come from? I could be completely wrong and they could be racists, but if they are, they are abusing a flag which means nothing of racism anymore.

They are very obviously trying to cause a disturbance. I think someone should sneak out in the middle of the night and remove the flag. Or maybe replace it with an American flag. Maybe they'd take the hint.

OF course they are trying to cause a disturbance! No other reason for them to do that. And I would suggest that everyone just leaves them alone, because all they want is for someone to **** with them so they can have an excuse to call the cops on the "black people". That sux though.

You are right. He has a right to do this. However, to do this in a neighborhood where it might offend his neighbors shows a lack of maturity. For his neighbors to respond to this in a negative , public way would show a lack of maturity also. Just because someone acts like a jerk doesn't give the rest of us the right to act like jerks in response.

There goes the neighborhood! They're obviously trying to create problems so they can later claim that they are victims of one kind or another, desperate for attention but not willing to do anything that requires effort to gain it in a positive sense or just stupid as dryer lint.
