There isn't any limit - it depends on the hardware you buy.
I would suggest a minimum of 1 gigabyte by todays standards, more is of course better. And the ability to add more memory is also good.
I've been in the industry for nearly twenty years and I would suggest getting a system with two 1 gigabyte memory chips as a minimum, with two expansion slots.
If you can get something better, like two 2 gig chips that would be preferable, or all four slots filled with 1 gig would also be cool.
System with that much memory should be fine for the next few years.

If you're talking about memory or RAM, then the most you'll probably find is 4 GB. The highest practical amount is 2 GB, but you'll probably only need that if you're a gamer. If you're not into playing graphic-intensive games like Quake 4 or Doom 3 or Far Cry, then you'll be fine with 1 GB.
If you're talking about space (loads of people confuse this with memory), then you can get hard drive configurations that allow up to a 1.5 TB. You will never be able to fill that up. I run with a 250 GB hard drive, and that's worked for my needs, and I have loads of legal movies, music, and games on my computer. If you're a home user, you really won't ever need more than 200 GB. But again, it depends on your needs. The best advice I can give you is to look at how much space you're using now. If you run Windows, then you can go to My Computer and right click on your C drive and view its properties. See how big your hard drive is and how much you're using. Using Windows, you want to leave 1/4 of your hard drive free (according to PC Pitstop's tests). So look at how much space you're currently using and base your new hard drive off that.

do you mean ram memory or hard drive memory. on hard drive yes you can get loads of terabites, to much space realy. but i think you are talking about ram memory.the largest ram card is 1gb an older pc will have 2 dimm slots for these cards and a new pc will have 4 dimm slots,so you could get 2 or 4 gb of memory...great... you can never have enough memory..
please select as best answer if this helps thanx

You can add memory until the slots on the motherboard are full. However, Windows XP can only handle up to 4 GB of memory. Windows Vista Home Basic will support up to 8 GB, Home Premium will support up to 16 GB, and Vista Business, Enterprise, and Ultimate will support up to 128 GB of memory.

You can have I think up to 4 gigs of RAM, but you only need one-two for the average everyday computer.
For hard drive space, I would recommend 200+ gigs of space.

I'm not sure but you can always add extra hard drives-if your computer has the room for them-that will increase memory
