It's an awareness of a woman's own reproductive cycle. In other words, your first answerer was half correct, it is the aging process, however it is the aging process in connection with the fertile years for a woman. It is the way a woman begins to see children and yearn for them. No alarm, no ticking, just a deep-seated urge to have a family. Most women aren't aware of them, unless they are in a situation which precludes having children, in their opinion. Mine doesn't keep time, I have children. And yours?

The Biological Clock is ticking when you hear the woman talking about having a baby before it is too late for her. The alarm sounds louder and louder until she is heard and becomes pregnant. I turned mine off.
