It is a really good time, because you have no job or family that you have to be responsible for. College or retirement are your best two times to travel, and see the world.

I think its a great time to travel. There are hostels around where you can stay cheaply. Its not as hard to stay up late or walk long distances. And as a college student, you are already used to eating cr**py cheap food!
I hope you do go, and I hope that you get the travel bug so badly that you never give up traveling! I am a lot older than you and am heading out to Ecuador in the next few weeks for the second time this year. I also did 2 trips to the UK this year. I would never trade these experiences for money or things. It will change you!
PS, we still travel cheap, walk long distances, and stay up late! Its just a little easier when you are younger.

Hi,,, i made my first trip abroad when i went to college in London,, I had a wonderful time and learned many new things ...
Since then,, 30 yrs to the exact actually,, i work around the world,, and have always enjoyed traveling and meeting and learning new people and customs and languages....
One thing that has always stuck from my 1st trip,,,,, We here in America, do not have any idea how lucky we have it!! and we should appreciate what we do have and consider trivial,, because they could be luxurious to others around the world...
Good luck

It all depends on various factors in your life.
Time is not as much of an issue as money. Can you afford to travel at this point in time?
I'd say the best time to travel, if money is not as much of a concern, is the summers of your frosh & soph years, and if you want to travel for an extended period, after you finish your bachelors.
It's tough these days as we're so focused on our careers here in the states, some people are afraid to take even half a year off between say a bachelors and a masters, or a bachelors & finding their first major job in their profession. It IS a tough decision, but I think it's an important one, as important as chosing your profession, because in travel there is knowledge, and in knowledge there is power. ;)
So, in short...consider a couple months (say 60 days or so) over the summers of your frosh & soph years, and perhaps a longer stretch when you finish your first degree.
Good travels!
