Well, yeah. Nearly everyone can. As far as do they, well that's a different question.

Of course they can. All human beings can reproduce. For example- a man goes to a sperm bank, makes a deposit, and then goes and has a sex change and becomes a woman. She can reproduce by means of her saved sperm. Or for a woman who transitions to male- if the uterus is still intact (not taken out by a hysterectomy) and the vagina not sewn up, then he may certainly have a child. Even if these procedures are done, he can always, beforehand, remove some of the eggs and freeze them, to be later fertilized and placed in a surrogate mother by in vitro procedure.

I suspect the question you're really asking, though, is if they can reproduce in the method of their new sex. The answer is no- a male to female transsexual (used to be a man, now a woman) doesn't have all the interior plumbing necessary to become pregnant; it will never happen. Neither does a female to male transsexual (used to be a woman, now a man) have the male interior plumbing that creates sperm, so he cannot impregnate a woman.

Hope that helps.

This CAN happen, but only if the transsexual is pre-op and is not currently taking hormones. After surgery, well that would be impossible.

For example, I myself am a pre-op female to male transsexual. That means that I have not had surgery and I still have all my female reproductive organs. My friend however, is also a female to male, but is POST op. He has had a double mascetomy, and a complete hysterectomy done. He can no longer carry children. He has actually asked ME to carry a child for him. I am currently on hormones though, and being on hormones (testosterone) I do not menstruate, therefore I do not ovulate. However, if I go off the hormones, my menstrual cycle would come back and I could technically become pregnant. This would have to be done through artificial insemination though because my friend who is also female to male does not produce sperm and has no testicles.

The same thing applies for male to female transsexuals. Even if they still have a penis, if they are on hormones, they usually take estrogen and also a testosterone blocker. This usually prevents a male from being able to maintain an erection, and usually the effect of the estrogen on the sperm makes them unviable, or like "shooting blanks".

This is one of the first things actually that my doctor asked me and made me sign a waiver about. It asks if you know the effects of hormone replacement therapy and if you have explored your options for children. It asks if you've already had children, if you want to freeze your eggs or sperm, or if you plan to adopt, use artificial insemination, or don't want children. Because under normal circumstances (like I said unless a female to male who hasn't had surgery goes off hormones) a transsexual cannot reproduce themselves. Even if they haven't had surgery, just the hormones alone will make them sterile. And if a pre-op transsexual goes off hormones, then they're not technically a transsexual anymore, just transgendered.

Hope this answers your question.

The hormone replacement therapy makes people infertile. After the bottom surgery we're definitely infertile.

a man to female doesn't have ovaries, so if she is with a male who has a penis---reproduction will not occur
a female to male doesn't have testicles, so if he is with a female who has ovaries----reproduction will not occur
the female with the ovaries could reproduce through artificial insemination.
