Its not a matter of inches or feet. Its a matter of safety.
It all depends on how MUCH snow, how FAST it is falling. How STRONG the winds are.
Basically how safe are students on the road (in buses or thier family cars) to get to/from school? That is the factors involved.

Yes, it depends on what state you live in. When I was in school 10 years ago. It was I think and still is Depending on where you are in Oregon 1-2 inches of Snow they will cancel school. We don't get school but ever 1 to 2 year's and so we are not use to the snow and ice.

Depends on what state you live in. In Virginia, where I live, when there's a couple of feet of snow, we get a snow day. However, in the upper north where it snows more often, there needs to be like 10 feet (exaggerating) of snow before a snow day is called.
More important than the amount of snow, is how much ice is on the roads. Because if there is too much ice on the roads, it's too dangerous.

It really is a matter of the rate of snow and the temperature outside. The snow itself poses little danger but at temperatures near the freezing point, the snow it able to melt when it touches the warm ground but then freezes on once it settles. This makes driving dangerous, especially for a 10,000 lb. schoolbus.

depends on the school and how efficient the people who plow ur roads are
the closings are dependent on the conditions of the roads not how much snow there is
if u get 5inches at 5 in the morn then that will be harder to clear than a foot the night b4
