It particularly relies upon on the fee that your ISP is providing you with; finding on what you're making use of DSL, Cable and so on. DSL is often slower then Cable yet once you reside in a community that has severe Cable information superhighway utilization then which will sluggish your speeds. The router would be sure that the information is transmitting as rapid as available to the different computers which you're sharing your information superhighway with; yet while the fee which you have become out of your provider provider is sluggish then no longer something may assist you to. you may call them and ask them what optimal speeds are set for you and notice if there are any larger speeds available. additionally, be constructive you positioned up your router with a password and cut back the style of computers which could get right of entry to it. in case you do no longer safeguard it you'll be able to supply human beings hacking in and sharing your bandwidth; which will sluggish you down extra.

On your Desktop ( page that shows when you start up you computer ) click the start button, then go into settings, then network and dial-up connections, right click on your connections and click the status button.there should be a word saying speed and beside that should be your speed for the connection.
P.S
the speed should be in mbps which is the same speed as KB.

There are several sites on the Internet in which you can gauge your download and upload speed. My favorite is Speakeasy Speed test (http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/). It requires Macromedia Flash Player. You can test your connection to several servers located across the globe.

www.bandwidthplace.com gives you 3 free tests per month. Speed is measured in Megabits per second.
Note that Megabits are different from Megabytes.
1 Megabyte = 8 Megabits.
So if you get a 4.0 Megabit connection, that translates to a .5 Megabyte connection, or 500 Kilobytes.
