I'm planning on applying through the JETs programme and I'm currently wondering if 3.6 million yen enough to live off of comfortably for the time being of 1 year? I have chosen Saitama City, Sapporo, and Osaka as my preferences, is that enough for any of those cities?

It is enough to live on and you can probably save some money too. You have chosen big cities which have subway and train lines. They also have buses. Don't worry. You're gonna make it just fine.

Of the 3 you listed, Osaka will be the most expensive city to live in. In Sapporo, also consider the electricity bills you are going to be spending in the winter. It gets quite cold there.

According to recent job market getting job is hard. If you have a job for such earning that will be great. 3.6 is not bad.You could live but depends on your expenses.

Tokyo area is the costly such as, local taxes, house rent etc.
As I am in Saitama not bed.
I can not say 100% about other places.

It is up to you, how do you spend your money.

3.36 Million Yen In Pounds

Well, 3,600,000 yen roughly ends up as 31,143 USD (United States Dollars). Depending on where you are from, that means: 16,028 GBP (Great Britain Pounds), 23,653 Euros, or 39,968 Australian Dollars. This means that you would be, at least in America, a middle/ higher-middle class person. So, in Japan, for a job, this is a great deal.
Hope that helps!

no. not enough. you should do part-time jobs, which is plentiful if you know where to look!

and the cities you chose are pretty damn expensive and high in cost of living.

kyushu is best, espescially in okinawa. cheaper if you go further south like ishigaki or miyako.

that's about average teacher fare so you should be able to get by quite nicely provided you're not a spendthrift. money can go fast in tokyo if you're not careful but if you live within your means you should be able to save money too.

If you shop too much or go out to expensive nightclubs and restuarants every weekend then you'll probably be scraping by paycheck to paycheck
