I hope it will go out of fashion as soon as possible. I don't like it, it is repulsing and disgusting. I hope my children will not do it!!

There have been tattoos and piercings since time began, and always will be.
Piercings just leave holes, if you change your mind five years from now, and only convey to people that you USED to be into that.
The problem is, the subject matter you're interested in now may really be lame five years from now. Witches, dragons and fairies? Too cute! Celtic? Old already. Geishas? Yawn. And who didn't get unicorn or hummingbird fifteen years ago?
Now, we have all these girls getting the Harley wings across their kidneys and hips. BORING!!! Or worse yet, the kids who think those pretty punks in "Prison Break" are cool, and are actually trying to get copycat tattos, even tho the actors really don't have a tat themselves. How stupid is that????
That's the reason most tat artists plead with people NOT to get someone's name put on their bodies. Same with trendy, obscene or offensive stuff--that Swastika that was so cool two decades ago could really piss off the Jewish lawyer handling your divorce.
I know it's hard to think of long-term at 15---that was a great age for me, and it was a very creative, open time. But now that I'm half-dead, by your reckoning :-) , I've lived to see a lot of people regret a lot of things.
What some people consider body art, other people consider a walking freak show. Body art tells everyone you see a lot about you, and you won't always get a positive reaction, so be prepared for that. You can't get defensive, and you can't get pissed off. They have the right to be turned off by you. This could inhibit job choices and how much time you'll spend in the back of a cop car being harassed every time you get pulled over for speeding or something minor. Being different has a price.
If you are a creative person, YOU can also get tired of what you have on you, and tatting is permanent art. You can't change body art without serious pain and scarring and big money, so choose very carefully with what you want to wear the rest of your life.
Look at it this way. You are basically putting on a permanent set of clothes. Do you think the jeans you're wearing now will be stylish five years from now? What about that shirt? Do you really want to wear that outfit the REST OF YOUR LIFE?
My old man was a biker, and I've seen a lot of tats and don't have a problem with them. I'm having a harder time with them on the young, pretty girls because you're only young once, with good skin once, and I think a big colorful design over the ovaries looks like H-- on a young girl in a swimsuit. You'll notice most top models DON'T have tats, and it's still frowned on with topless and nude dancers. They make their living from great bodies, and tats are not what guys want to see on a nice body.
Further, permanent black ink on young skin looks really, really bad when everything starts sagging. Or when the colors fade, like some do quickly, and you wind up with the wrong technicolor nightmare. There's a photo on the internet of a tattoed nude granny, and honey, it is not pretty. Yes, she's unique, but man!!!
It's a little too permanent for me, but I'm all for personal choice.
Choose wisely, honey, go slow and good luck to you.

I'm guessing it will. Tattoos and piercings have been around for thousands of years and they are only gaining popularity. Not only that, but the are also gaining social acceptance. One thing to think about is whether or not a tattoo or piercing is something that you want to have stay with you for life. Piercings you can take out but if you stretch, you are pretty much stuck with that.

If you're only doing it for fashion, I wouldn't. Regardless of what's considered cool today or tomorrow, what YOU think is cool might change, and then there's nothing you can do about it. Well, you can have surgery, but then you've still got the scars. Picture that all over your body!
Even if you aren't doing it simply for fashion purposes, I'd still slow down. Get one at a time and see how you feel about getting more. Maybe get one per year. Why is 20 the (arbitrary) goal line?

Trust me take your time when deciding on getting tattoos and piercings. The tattoos and piercing you want now you will not want when your 20. Take time and really think about what you want b/c it's a life long commitment!!!

Probably forever. Since like piercings and all did occur in ancient civilizations too.
But full body tattoo?? too much for me to handle anyways. I would reccomend getting a tattoo for each special occassion?

I love tattoos, and I love piercings but u really shouldn't be getting them this soon!
Take it one at a time!
And I honestly don't think they were ever in fashion,
which is precisely why I like them..

The fashion before long will be natural clear and clean skin. The big business will be in trying to get them all off.
