From writer to writer, no storytelling element will make a story unforgettable. Only the story can do that. But, one thing that WILL help, don't write a predictable story. If your readers know what to expect, they'll get bored of reading your story and may not pick up another one of your books, or not even finish the one they're reading.

Personally, I love books that are full of adventure but have good, complex characters who I'm able to identify with in some way. The ones I remember most are the epic stories with unlikely or reluctant heros- LOTR, Lady of the Forest, the Death Gate novels... and of course, I love fantasy. :P
Good luck! I'm working on a novel too, so I know how it can be!

I like a well crafted book. One where the action is entirely logical, the characters are somewhat predictable, and the plot flow is mostly forward with several lines of action converging to a climax.

Write something that is realistic and that is tragic but I mean you first need an idea when you write you shouldn't be trying to write a book that would be remembered forever you should write something that comes from the heart and if it is special enough then it will be remembered forever.

You need a conflicted hero that does the right thing at the end or your story or book.

try looking your library catalog for the priority: Booksellers and bookselling -- Fiction. I did this seek in the Library of Congress's catalog and have been given 118 hits, consisting of: Garrison Allen's "huge Mike" secret sequence. the substantial detective in this sequence is a cat, yet his human is a e book broking. Steve Berry's sequence of thrillers (The templar legacy, The Alexandria link, ... ) whose protagonist is a former undercover agent grew to become e book broking. John Dunning's "Cliff Janeway" secret sequence. The detective is a former cop grew to become e book broking. i in my opinion advise the 1st, "Booked to die." a pair others from the record I even have study and would advise: Ramsay Campbell's horror novel, "The in one day." in case you like horror, p.c.. this one. H.C. Tidian's "McGillicuddy the librarian." in case you like Terry Pratchett's variety of humorous delusion, p.c.. this one.
