I wouldn't say you really need to give a gift but if you really want to find out her favorite flower and get a bouquet. If you have no way to find her favorite go for roses. Just make sure the flowers are perfect because they will reflect on you. More important than the gift is the conversation. Good Luck

Flowers are always a winner! But on the first date you don't have to worry too much about gifts, just have fun and maybe offer to pay for whatever activity your doing that will go down well and she can always let you know if she would like to pay. Either way it will make a good impression.

box of chocs if you fancy buying her something. Thats really sweet. My husband never bought dating gifts. Maybe going-out-iversary gifts before we were married. And thats only when prompted!!
I think you are a nice guy and you obviously like the girl. Get her something if you like. Not to expensive tho or she will expect more as time goes on. Don't expect a gift from her tho as Its not common to buy dating gifts!!

A bouquet of roses or maybe a teddy bear I think is the best present for the first date.

Don't go over the top, but try and make it something that relates to her, not what you think is 'nice'. A second-hand book about a topic of her interest (if you know what that might be) shows you have been thinking about her.
