What are you talking about the slave trade is still going on and no one will do anything about it, Take a look at my standard answer involving slavery: I am a Civil War buff and got into an argument with the leaders of the Afro American community here in Virginia. They and many Afro-Americans dislike the Confederate Battle Flag their excuse is it reminds them of slavery. You might be aware that the Slavery Museum is being built here in Virginia and when I asked what that reminded them of; I was asked to leave the meeting. What I can not understand if the Afro-Americans here in the States are so anti-slavery why aren't they and you fighting slavery in the modern world? Is it all right to complain about what happened a 140 years ago but you won't take any steps to prevent from happening today?
You say you didn't know about modern slavery? Well, now you do, anyone who has had such a issue with slavery as the Afro-Americans should be studying the issue and organizing bans, boycotts and marches. Lets' start with the number two (2) area that being Chocolate, you should ensure that your family, friends and school boycott Chocolate that means candy, ice cream and hot chocolate, etc. The big companies have the power to make sure the Egyptians and others quit using slaves to gather the Coca Beans.
The number one (1) area is the sex trade, videos, prostitution and children. You cannot do much there but you could ensure the issue becomes publicized.
Number three (3) is Coffee and you should do the same thing as you should do with chocolate.
Number four (4) is drugs and it is even worse with this area (I believe they should be legalized; it worked in the Netherlands and would be a God sent to the Country) is that the profits are used to kill us.
Yes, I am against slavery are you? God Bless You and The Southern People.

The African nations could not give a damm about it. For them its old history. They only ever bring it up when they want to score political points against the west on some other issue.
Its only us that have a hard on for this. But look at the state where in with our crazy liberal lefty agendas. In 200 years we will be apologising for sacking the teacher for wearing a Vail in the classroom.
I think that political correctness and the term 'institutional racism' has done more to cause hatred and racism in this country than the BNP could ever hope to achieve. I really resent it and I am at the point now where if I am a raciest for my views, then GOOD. It used to concern me but I just DONT CARE ANYMORE.

I think that the point really is that I as a Brit should not be asked to apologize for something I didnt do. I cannot accept responsibility for something my countrymen did a long time ago. Many of the descendents of former slaves now have a much better life in western nations than their African bretheren so why cant we all consign history to the past, learn from it but realize that we have to look to the future.

Probably not, because that wouldn't be very PC.
I don't understand why our modern political leaders feel the need to apologise for things that individuals did in the past. If slavery had been a government policy, then I could sort of understand it; but as the slave trade was all to do with private enterprise, and the main involvement of the government was to ban it, I don't see why Blair should be abasing himself.
Still, that's the sign of the times ... O tempora, o mores! (as Cicero used to say).

Well the Africans had their own ways of dealing with other tribes they conquered in a war among themselves that was their way of life. What was wrong was when the West decided to take advantage of that.Remember the West had a lot of weaponry etc to offer and with such weapons on your side convincing an apparently primitive tribe to trade is much more simple.Think of it like this, if you have slaves and someone offers to trade their never-before-seen goods for them what do you do?????

The slave still and always will exist, whether it is in North West Africa, Girls being bought and sold in Eastern Europe or Pop stars buying babies in Malawi, the buying of humans will exist and no apology will end that fact.

I don't think that the African nations should have to apologias for this. They were just trying to live. The tribes thought they were ding themselves a favor by getting rid of their enemy's. We as people who knew better should have never purchased salves.
