Would you like it more if instead of a solo artist backed up by a beat machine, they were in a band backed up by a bassist, drummer, and guitarist(Rage Against The Machine, Faith No More). Or if they rapped about better subjects(politics, poverty, oppression).

good point, r.a.t.m were brilliant and the rap lyrics worked very well so i guess you might be right about rap, less [c]rap and more rage type music.

I wouldn't say I hate rap either, but I like originality. I'm not a fan of sampling other people constantly. Be original. I mean, P. Diddy has made a fortune off of other peoples' talent. He can't sing and quite frankly, his rapping leaves a lot to be desired. I do like Eminem and Jay-Z, even though I know they sample too, but they have talent. But that's just my opinion, some may say they both suck and P. Diddy rules- but I also think it's ridiculous that you have to tell us your names throughout the song, or talk about sex and violence as if they go hand-in-hand. I mean, rap came from wanting to tell those who didn't know differently, about their struggle. Honest and true beats and rhymes that told a story. Run DMC, GrandMaster Flash, The Furious Five, LL Cool J (back in the day), Queen Latifah "U-N-I-T-Y", even the Beastie Boys...they weren't commercialized, talkin' about Air Jordan's, Grillz, "24's", I mean, how many times do we hear about "Rollin' on 24's"??? I don't care what you rap about, it just concerns me when kids don't know the difference btwn. truth and reality and parents aren't around to explain it. They think it's ok to call a woman a hoe or b***h, while staring at her chest, packing, drinking a 40 and smoking weed. That's all I'm saying, rap had a meaning, and a depth, and there's only a few that we hear on the radio that have kept it that way, and the rest, all sound the same...I'm just not impressed.

I like rap!! I think that people should be open minded and really listen to some good rap and appreciate it for all that it is...It's not just rhyming words about how many b i t c h es someone has..It's a message, it's poetry, it's rhyme patterns it's expression with a kick drum...There's so much good stuff out there, but there is also allot of bunk stuff, you just have to listen to find one you like. There is rap for everyone,,,Yeah RAP!!! ( Oh this question is for people who don't like rap?) My bad...

hmm... I prefer it if they are backed up by several instruments. I would defiunately say that part of the reason that I dislike rap is because of the bad name it is given about the subject content. If people rapped about God's love, overcoming struggles, and other positive things, I might change my mind some.

The only reason why I don't like rap now is because most of them go on about killing people and they refer to their girlfriends as either "Ho's" or "B----es"
If they would stop demeaning people and cursing and swearing in their lyrics, then I would enjoy it.
By the way, this is coming from a former rap listener.

yeah, thats the main thing about rap and hip-hop. and at the base, rock, punk, and rap are the same thing, even though punk is connected alot closer to rock. but yeah. a guy in baggy pants in a chain living in a huge mansion rap/sing ing about his hoes isn't appealing to me. i don't dislike it musically. just the image which they harp on. get your buddies from the hood or whatever, add some guitars and a decent bassline, and rap about something that matters, like linkin park, but more rapping and better songwriting would be awesome.

I don't hate rap ,but I think they should rap about MEANINGFUL stuff . Most of time I hear a rap song it's always about guns, hookers ,drugs, cars, and killing people. The only time I don't headr about that stuff is when I listen to rappers like Kanye West ,Lupe Fiasco, and Common.

Most rappers rap about things no one can relate to. So yes its all about the politics, opression, and just normal everyday life.
