I've had male and female roommates. It really depends on the individual, not their gender. For me, living with a female was better for the domestic side, and living with a guy was a little more crazy. It also depends whether you are friends or just two people sharing bills.

Opposite sex roommates are ok, I'm actually moving into an apartment with my straight guy friend, but we are purely friends so there is no problem there. If you become uncomfortable just tell him.

well the advantage of having the same sex for a room mate, is that, you can talk over personal problems more (ex: specially for two girls rooming together), and you form a close sisterly or brotherly, i guess you say bond. disadvantage: if you had a boyfriend or girlfriend, you wouldn't get to spend as much time together, or be more intimate, or form a closer bond. but if you broke up, you'd have nothing to worry about since he or she lives in another room.
for the opposite sex, advantage: as in boyfriend/girlfriend, well, spend more time together, form a much more closer bond, become more intimate. disadvantage: you could start fighting, and then break up, and then wear would you be? you'd be stuck in a room with your ex for the rest of the college year.
i don't know which one i'd choose. i guess, if i had to choose, it would be with the opposite sex, with my boyfriend. we're planning on sharing a room in college anyway.

Lived with both and I like to live with both at the same time because, with a female you two can share clothes, etc. with a male they are most likely to know more about fixing cars, etc. When you have a problem etc. you have a male and female point of view.Guys leave the toilet seat up and girls leave clothes all over.

I'd prefer a same sex roommate because I don't indulge in fornication! In my heyday, girls weren't even allowed in fraternity houses except for special occasions. Nor was booz permitted. There is absolutely NO advantage rooming with the opposite sex ... period! Too many sexual temptations! (Yes ... I attend Church regularly)

I think it's worst with the opposite sex. So I thinks it's better to have a roomate with the same sex.

Women keep you and the houshold in line. Great. But with a guy we don't have to pretend half as much that we're any better than we are.

dude its alot better. her friends come over all the time. you can usually get with her friends since your her roommate. usually girls are cleaner than guys. girls will acually clean up after them selves more and are generally more responsible about bills and stuff like that.

I get along well with me, and I like men, but then they'd probably want me to be their second mother.

I get along ok with women but then they can get moody at times...

I would prefer to get a cat.
