You could make some hand made paper. I know you said it can't be food but have you ever made butter from heavy whipping cream and a clean, empty glass jar? You just pour in the cream, a dash of salt and put the lid on the jar and shake continuously until you have a lump of butter and some buttermilk. Most kids don't know how butter is made and that the process is so simple. You could also weave friendship bracelets from embroidery floss. How about making bookmarks using rubber stamps and colored pencils on white card stock? Look on the Internet for Origami websites and learn to make simple designs like boxes or stars for the Christmas tree.

you can do candles if you buy the candle sand
go to the craft store they have a sand that all you have to do is put a wick in the jar and fill with the sand ...and you have a candle...you can also add smelly oils to the sand to give it smell.
hope this helps
another girly type thing you could do is bath salts
1cup instant milk
1 cup baking soda
2 cups Epsom salt/or sea salt Epsom salt combo
mix all together then add
food coloring
smelly oil
mix well put in decorative jars or bags
make great gifts

Make a centerpiece withhomemade popourri and pine cones and dried flowers that maybe you dry yourself?

You can buy beezewax candle kits that do not need boiling, you soften the sheets in the microwave and layer them on a candle for effect...

Or, you could paint candles and add tailor tack's and other embellishments that you stick into the store bought candle.

do a dried flower arrangement, maybe a matching one for over the door?

Get a cheap hot glue gun a stapler and there you go!
