I have the opportunity to go to a community college or go to a university. Ether way i will probobly graduate with the same degree but i can go two years at the community college and save alot of money. In theory its the best idea but i will be missing the "college expirence" I was wondering if getting a dorm and joining a frat is worth the money.

I know a lot of really smart, passionate people who spent two years at a community college before transferring. They definitely had a different experience, but now they live on campus and fit in just fine. My suggestion to you is that if financially, it's better for you to do two years of CC, then go for it. College is a lot of social development, like living in a dorm, but the frat isn't imperative and you may actually be better off at a four year university once you have some real world experience.

I wouldn't bother with the frat. The ones that I saw were mostly party organizations. They did do some networking with alumni, and some did social service kinds of functions like working with kids, etc, but mostly they partied.

You will be exposed to more ideas at a bigger college. They can attract people from other cultures, and more professors with better educations and experience. They will probably have more contacts in the field that can lead to co-op jobs, internships, etc. On the other hand, a community college will get you in and through and out at a reduced price.

If the field you're training for has plenty of jobs, go for the community college. If the job market is competitive, consider the university, especially if they have a great reputation for the field you're studying. If two job candidates have similar degrees, but one went to Podunk Community College, but the other went to Prestigious U, guess who's more likely to get the job?

I couldn't tell you about the whole frat thing...but I can tell you this, I had a whole lot more FUN when I was on a larger campus. It was quite different from the community college experience I had. In my opinion, there is alot more opportunities to socialize on a university campus. On the other hand when I went to a community college, I was able to be with more non-traditional students. I valued both experiences. However, I have a closer relationship with those I met at the community college.

Lilith, Grants usually stop at around $1,000, and don't pay much for college. Since they don't have to be paid back, be sure to apply for any you qualify for. Student loans are like any other loans, they have to be paid back. They do wait to begin adding interest until 6 months after you graduate, or stop going to college. If you have no other funds for college, then do use them. You can also apply for jobs students hold on campus to help pay for college. Learning disabilities don't prevent you from learning. Just know what you need to do to learn, then do it. The social life in college is more likely to hurt your education than learning disabilities. There are ususally counselors who job it is to help those with learning disabilities, or any general disability. Ask the school you are considering if they have such a counselor. There are many people in colleges who will help you with all sorts of things you might need there. A degree is often a big help in opening the doors to jobs and careers, so it's worth looking into. It depends on your personality. I went to the Univ. of GA, and it was well worth the experience. There is no way that a community college will give you the same opportunity to meet so many people socially. In life, it is truly about who you know that gets you ahead. Even if you do go to college, you don't have to join a fraternity. I feel for you man...it is a tough decision, but I would say to do what your gut is telling you.

you get the same degree, except if you go to a cc, you save money. Two years of nonstop partying will be enough.
